The ITIL Managing Professional: Designation in practice

The ITIL Managing Professional: Product, Service and Experience designation brings together three areas of ITIL (Version 5):

  • ITIL Product (Version 5)
  • ITIL Service (Version 5)
  • ITIL Experience (Version 5)

The Managing Professional assessment combines the content of Product, Service and Experience into a single assessment. Together, these areas provide a comprehensive understanding of how to manage digital products and services across their lifecycle, while ensuring that value is created through effective delivery and positive stakeholder experiences.
The three areas complement each other by connecting digital product management, service management and experience management. They support professionals in working across the full Product and Service Lifecycle, from discovery and design through to building, transition, operation, delivery and support.

ITIL Product (Version 5)

ITIL Product (Version 5) focuses on managing digital products as integrated value streams, aligning product capabilities, services and business outcomes across their full lifecycle.
The module covers the integration of digital products and services, value stream integration and flow optimisation, strategic discovery and product direction, and human-centred product design. It also addresses resource and supplier orchestration, build and quality engineering, controlled transition and deployment, reliable and observable operations, and AI-enabled ways of working.
ITIL Product enables professionals to manage digital products from discovery to support, align cross-functional teams and make evidence-based decisions using metrics, feedback and lifecycle performance data.

ITIL Service (Version 5)

ITIL Service (Version 5) focuses on achieving excellence in digital service management by coordinating people, processes and technology to deliver resilient, responsive and customer-centred services.
The module applies the eight activities of the ITIL Product and Service Lifecycle: discover, design, acquire, build, transition, operate, deliver and support. It covers service operations, incident management, problem management, release and deployment, service level management, service request management, configuration and asset management, monitoring and event management, continual improvement and service continuity management.
ITIL Service helps professionals coordinate and sustain effective service delivery while improving service performance, resilience and alignment with customer needs.

ITIL Experience (Version 5)

ITIL Experience (Version 5) focuses on embedding human-centred and AI-aware design into digital products and services, helping organisations align trust, perception and value throughout the lifecycle.

The module explores how experience arises from anticipation, perception and evaluation, and how digital experiences influence engagement, trust and value co-creation. It covers stakeholder perspectives, experience across the Product and Service Lifecycle, experience drivers, experience capture, trustworthiness and coherence, and continual experience improvement.

ITIL Experience also examines the impact of AI on trust, perception and experience, including the role of AI governance and digital ethics in supporting responsible and transparent use.

Together, ITIL Product, ITIL Service and ITIL Experience provide an integrated approach to managing digital products and services. They help professionals connect product capabilities, service delivery and human experience to create sustainable value throughout the Product and Service Lifecycle.
